Recognising Compassion, Community and Family Values

We are incredibly proud to announce that Hughes Funeral Directors has been named Family Business of the Year at the prestigious Express & Star Business Awards 2026.

As a truly independent, family-run funeral directors serving Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas, this award is a reflection of the values that have guided us since the day we opened our doors: compassion, dignity, personal care, and unwavering support for the families who place their trust in us.

To be recognised amongst some of the region's most successful family businesses is a tremendous honour and one that means a great deal to everyone involved at Hughes Funeral Directors.

A Family Business at Its Heart

Unlike larger corporate funeral providers, we remain a genuine family-run funeral directors where families deal directly with the people who own and operate the business.

Craig and Kim Hughes are personally involved in every aspect of the service, from the very first phone call through to the funeral itself. Supporting them is Wendy Taylor, alongside other family members who help ensure that every family receives the same level of care, compassion and attention to detail.

Being family-run isn't simply part of our business model — it's who we are.

Every family that comes through our doors is treated as if they were our own.

Serving Families Across Wolverhampton

At Hughes Funeral Directors, we understand that arranging a funeral is one of the most difficult experiences a family can face.

Our role is not simply to organise a funeral but to provide reassurance, guidance and support when it is needed most.

Whether a family chooses a traditional funeral, direct cremation, funeral plan or personalised celebration of life, we are committed to ensuring every service reflects the wishes of the individual and those they leave behind.

This personal approach has helped us build a strong reputation throughout Wolverhampton and the surrounding communities, with many families returning to us through recommendation and word of mouth.

Supporting Our Community Beyond the Funeral

One of the reasons highlighted during the awards process was our commitment to supporting local families beyond the day of the funeral itself.

Over the years, we have introduced a number of initiatives designed to provide comfort and support throughout the grieving process.

These include:

  • Our annual Christmas Memorial Service

  • The Memorial Tree displayed in our funeral home

  • Memorial baubles and remembrance initiatives

  • The much-loved Post Box to Heaven, where members of the community can write letters and messages to loved ones who have passed away

These initiatives have become an important part of how we support families throughout the year and reflect our belief that remembrance should never be limited to one day alone.

Thank You for Your Trust and Support

While we are honoured to receive this award, we recognise that achievements like this are only possible because of the families who trust us every day.

To every family who has allowed us to care for their loved one, attended one of our remembrance events, recommended our services, or simply offered words of support, we would like to say thank you.

Your trust means everything to us.

Looking to the Future

Winning Family Business of the Year is a proud milestone for Hughes Funeral Directors, but it does not change who we are.

We remain committed to providing affordable, personal and compassionate funeral services whilst continuing to support our local community in meaningful ways.

As we look to the future, we will continue to build upon the values that earned this recognition and strive to provide the highest standards of funeral care for every family we serve.

From all of us at Hughes Funeral Directors, thank you for being part of our journey.
